About...

The Tri-M Music Honor Society is the international music honor society for secondary school students that motivates and recognizes musical achievement. Founded in 1936 by Alexander and Frances Harley, incorporated and renamed Modern Music Masters in 1952, and in 1983, recognized as Tri-M Music Honor Society, a program of MENC, Tri-M has helped young people provide years of service through music in thousands of schools throughout the world. Through nearly 3,700 chartered chapters, thousands of students have received recognition for their efforts and honor for their musical accomplishments.

Tri-M shares and supports the objectives of every dedicated music educator - to increase student and school involvement with music and to strengthen and unify the school music program. Tri-M is a program of MENC: The National Association for Music Education, the largest non-profit organization dedicated to the advancement of music education. Through its many programs, activities, publications, and conferences, MENC addresses all aspects of music education and works to ensure that every student has access and exposure to a balanced, comprehensive, and high quality program of music instruction.

Requirements...

The Tri-M Music Honor Society is an international honors organization for high school music students. The requirements for acceptance into Tri-M are three-fold: students must hold an unweighted academic average of 87.5, a music average of 93, and have the recommendations of 2 teachers, they must be of high moral character, and they must participate in a school music ensemble and participate in a Chapter Recital during the fall of their senior year. One of the most wonderful aspects of Tri-M is that all music students, regardless of performance proficiency level, are eligible to participate.

The Tri-M candidacy process begins in the fourth marking period of the Junior Year, and continues through the start of the Senior Year. For other important chapter dates, see the CCP or CIP Calendar pages.
