CCP Breaking News...
- April 23, 2007- Concert Choir and "Crescendo" return from Orlando, FL, where they competed in the 3rd annual Festival Disney
national competition. At the festival, Concert Choir took home the
Mixed Choir Class AA title! With their ninth consecutive Superior
Rating,
"Crescendo" took home their first Festival Disney National
Championship, and took home the Silver Award in the specialty choir
division!
In addition, both groups took part in the Magic Music Days festival, performing in EPCOT for hundreds of people!
- January 12, 2007- Congratulations
to Spencer Glass ('09). As one of 10 students who represented the CCP
in this year's various All-Nassau County Choirs, Spencer was selected to
perform the baritone solo in the Division III Mixed Chorus' performance
of Aaron Copland's "The Boatsman's Dance", guest conducted by Dr. David Fryling of Hofstra University!
- December 2, 2006- A 'sea' of CCP members, well representing all three groups, provide holiday music at the annual Merrick Chamber of Commerce Santa's Visit, held at the Merrick Villiage Gazebo. Hundreds of area children and parents were in attendance during the program!
- October 24, 2006- Disney Entertainment continues to choose "Crescendo" as their group-of-choice in their mailings!

- August 21, 2006- Congratulations
to Tyler Lee ('08), who has been honored by the National Association of
Music Education (MENC) as an "All-USA High School Musician"! Only one
hundred total instrumentalists and vocalists are selected by MENC for
this honor; as such, Tyler is one of only FOUR tenors named in the
entire country! In addition, Tyler has been selected to represent the
CCP in BOTH this year's All-State Choir, at the NYSSMA Winter Conference
held in Rochester in December, and in this year's All-Eastern Choir, at the MENC Eastern Division Conference in Hartford, CT!
- August 10, 2006- "Crescendo" has once again been featured on the Festival Disney newly-redesigned website!


- April 6-9, 2006- "Crescendo"
and Concert Choir once again dominate in Virginia Beach, VA! Both
groups competed in the Music in the Parks festival. Concert Choir took
1st place, 9 full points ahead of the 2nd place choir! The Concert
Choir received their 2nd-ever rating of "Superior", scoring a 94, out
of a possible 100 points! "Crescendo" continued its tradition by taking
home the Atlantic Coast Championship (for the eighth year), with the
highest score of any group, in any category, in the entire festival
(scoring a 97, out of a possible 100 points)! In addition, Amanda Leich
('06) walked away with the festival's Outstanding Accompanist Trophy!
The CCP was also awarded the Judges Choice Trophy for best Choral
Program at the festival!
- December 4, 2005- "Crescendo"
performs at the Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony of the new Merrick Public
Library. Amid a large number of local politicians and community
members, "Crescendo" performed the Star Spangled Banner to begin the day, and later presented a 'vocals only' performance of their winter program.
- September 10, 2005- "Crescendo" has been featured on the Festival Disney website!

- August 22, 2005- Congratulations
to Shannen Hofheimer ('07), and Sara Stanganelli ('06), who have been
selected to represent the CCP in this year's All-State Choirs, held in
Rochester in December! Once again, the CCP boasts the largest number of
All-State musicians in the district.
- April 3, 2005- "Crescendo" returns from Orlando, FL, where they competed in the inaugural Festival Disney
competition. With their seventh consecutive Superior Rating,
"Crescendo" placed 2nd in the show choir category, only 2.7 points out
of 1st, and took home the Bronze Award in the specialty choir division.
In addition, "Crescendo" took part in the Magic Music Days festival, performing in the Magic Kingdom for hundreds of people!
- November 7, 2004- Congratulations to Erin Caragol ('06), who was selected by the United Veterans' Organization of Nassau County to perform the Star Spangled Banner at the annual Nassau County Veterans' Day Memorial Ceremony at Eisenhower Park!
- September 5, 2004- The
CCP's Internet Radio Station, "RadioCCP", has recently been updated,
and now includes over 4 hours of Calhoun choral music from the last 12
years! Click on the RadioCCP link on the main menu bar to begin
listening!
- August 26, 2004- Congratulations
to Lauren Musacchio ('05) and Susan Rattner ('06), who have been
selected to represent the CCP in this year's All-State Choirs! Once
again, the CCP boasts the largest number of All-State musicians in the
district. This is the second All-State selection for Lauren.

- April 15-18, 2004- "Crescendo"
and Concert Choir dominate in Virginia Beach, VA! Both groups competed
in the Music in the Parks festival. Concert Choir took 1st place, 8
full points ahead of the 2nd place choir! The Concert Choir received a
rating of "Superior", for the first time in the history of the CCP
(scoring a 96.25, out of a possible 100 points)! "Crescendo" continued
its tradition by taking home the Atlantic Coast Championship (for the
seventh year), with the highest score of any group, in any category, in
the entire festival (scoring a 97, out of a possible 100 points)! In
addition, Jared Buchbinder ('04) walked away with the festival's
Outstanding Soloist Trophy! The CCP was also awarded the Judges Choice
Trophy for best Choral Program at the festival!

of Steven Sametz' "The Heroine Triumphant", guest conducted by Dr. Sametz!
- October 29, 2003- Concert Choir is requested by State Senator Charles Fuschillo to perform at the 3rd Annual "NYS Golden Gathering", a senior citizen expo held at the Freeport Recreation Center. The choir entertains approx. 2000 seniors at the expo!
- August 27, 2003- Congratulations
to Jared Buchbinder ('04), and Lauren Musacchio ('05), who have been
selected to represent the CCP in this year's All-State Choirs! Once
again, the CCP boasts the largest number of All-State musicians in the
district. This is the second All-State selection for Jared.
Congratulations!
- April 4, 2003- The Merrick Chamber of Commerce hosted the 1st annual "Music in Motion",
a CCP fundraiser concert featuring the Concert Choir and "Crescendo"!
In the audience were County Legislators Norma Gonsalves and David
Dennenberg, Town Supervisor Kate Murray, and Town Councilman Gary
Hudes!
- March 21, 2003- As
a result of the heightened national security level during the War in
Iraq, the Bellmore-Merrick Board of Education has voted to cancel all
out-of-state trips for the remainder of the school year. As a result,
there will be no spring competition tour this year. This stops
"Crescendo's" streak at six consecutive Music in the Parks Show Choir Championships.
- November 18, 2002- Congratulations
to Jared Buchbinder ('04), and Stacy Davidowitz ('03), who have been
selected to represent the CCP in this year's MENC All-Eastern Choir, to
be held in Providence, RI this coming March!
- November 16, 2002- "Crescendo"
hits the "small screen"! The award-winning show choir will be the
featured guests on an episode of "Spotlight New York". "Crescendo"
taped the show at the Cablevision studios in Lynbrook. The half-hour
show will air on Nassau's channel 71 on 12/24 @ 8:30pm, 12/25 @ 9am,
12/31 @ 8:30, and 1/6 @ 10:30pm!
- August 31, 2002- The
Calhoun Choral Program hits the airwaves! RadioCCP is an internet radio
station that broadcasts streaming Calhoun Choral music from the past 10
years-24/7/365! Click the RadioCCP option on the Navigation Bar to
start listening!
- August 26, 2002- Congratulations
to Brie Piccirillo ('03), Jared Buchbinder ('04), and Stacy Davidowitz
('03), who have been selected to represent the CCP in this year's
All-State Choirs! This is the largest number of CCP vocalists ever
selected for All-State in any one year, and it is the second All-State
selection for Stacy. Congratulations to all three!
- May 30, 2002- The
Calhoun Music Boosters sponsored the first annual Music Dept. Banquet
at Viva Loco Cafe in Bellmore! Students, parents, and alumni had a

- May 25, 2002- "Crescendo"
headlines at the "America The Beautiful- A Celebration of Patriotism,
Remembrance and Hope" festival at the Planting Fields Arboretum!
Sharing the stage with well-known vocalist Officer Daniel Rodriguez,
"Crescendo" performed the Star Spangled Banner at the opening
ceremonies, and their "American Spirit" show later in the day.
- April 11-14, 2002- "Crescendo"
and Concert Choir return to Virginia Beach, VA! Both groups competed in
the Music in the Parks festival. Concert Choir took 3rd place, and Jon
Weinberger ('02) walked away with the festival's Outstanding Soloist
Trophy! "Crescendo" continued its tradition by taking home the Atlantic
Coast Championship (for the sixth straight year), with the highest
score of any group, in any category, in the entire festival (again)!
The CCP was also awarded the Judges Choice Trophy (for the 2nd straight
year) for best Choral Program at the festival!
- October 7, 2001- Concert
Choir performed the "National Anthem" and "They Live in You" to a HUGE
crowd at the Merrick Street Fair! Following the performance, the CCP
officially released its benefit CD, "Songs in the Key of Hope", which
sold 60 copies in under 3 hours!
- August 18, 2001- Congratulations
to Stacy Davidowitz ('03), who performed the National Anthem at Giants
Stadium for the NY Jets/ Baltimore Ravens preseason NFL game! A veteran
of opening ceremonies, Stacy sang at a Long Island Ducks baseball game
at Ducks Stadium and a NY Dragons arena football game at Nassau
Memorial Coliseum this past spring.

Music in the Parks festival. Concert Choir took 1st place, 7 full
points ahead of the 2nd place choir! "Crescendo" continued its
tradition by taking home the Atlantic Coast Championship (for the fifth
straight year), with the highest score of any group, in any category,
in the entire festival! The CCP was also awarded the Judges Choice
Trophy for best Choral Program at the festival!
- March 19, 2001- "Crescendo" performed at the annual PTA Founders Day Dinner. The standing ovation following the performance was unequaled!
- February 25, 2001-
Seven Show Choir students and two alumni [Christina Gomez ('98) and
Melanie Fishman ('00)] performed at Madison Square Garden, in front of
20,000 NY Knicks fans! It was one of the most exciting performances in CCP
history!
- December 19, 2000- "Crescendo" headlined at Newsday's "Children's Charities" Concert!
- October 22, 2000- Concert
Choir returned to the Senator Norman J. Levy Park and Preserve, where
they had performed at the ground-breaking ceremony in 1998. This time,
it was to perform at the opening ceremonies! Concert Choir performed
their well-known and critically acclaimed arrangement of "The Star
Spangled Banner" and the energetic "Celebrate the Future". The cheering
audience included many local, town, and county officials.
- April 13-16, 2000-
Concert Choir and "Crescendo" tour Orlando, FL! Both groups performed
at EPCOT Center, during Disney's Millennium Celebration. Both groups
also competed in the Music in the Parks festival. Concert Choir took
2nd place, narrowly missing a performance rating of "Superior" (by 1/2
pt)! Melanie Fishman ('00) was awarded the festival's Outstanding
Soloist Award! "Crescendo" continued its tradition by taking home the
Atlantic Coast Championship (for the fourth straight year), with a
rating of "Superior"! Calhoun High School was also awarded the
prestigious Esprit de Corps Trophy, based on the students' professionalism, maturity, spirit, and sportsmanship!
- May 27, 1999- "Crescendo" held a Q & A session with Kevin Wright and Jeff Thacher of Rockapella. Some of the students got a chance to sing "Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego" with them!
